Disneyland Resort Closes Amid Coronavirus Outbreak
Disneyland Resort said it put the needs of its cast members first with the notice that the park will be closed temporarily.
ANAHEIM, CA — Disneyland Resort said Thursday it will temporarily close Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park out of concern for guests and employees over the new coronavirus pandemic.
The closures will extend from Saturday morning through the end of March, a park spokesperson said.
This is the third time that Disneyland Resort has closed their gates.
Disneyland Resort went dark on the National day of mourning, following the assassination of president John F. Kennedy on Nov. 23, 1963. The second, following the terrorist attacks on New York and Washington on Sept. 11, 2001. Never has the park been closed for the duration they are suggesting, in keeping with the public health crisis.
Following Saturday's closure, all of the hotels owned by the Disneyland Resort—Paradise Pier, Disney's Grand Californian, and the Disneyland Hotel— will remain open through Monday, while guests make other travel arrangements.
On Tuesday, through the end of March, all resort property hotels were scheduled for closure until the month's end.
Downtown Disney will remain open as well. It was not known as of this report how long those shops and restaurants would stay open.
Though Disneyland Resort, as well as other area theme parks, were allowed to remain open according to Gov. Gavin Newsom, the park decided to made other arrangements.
Newsom discussed a conversation with former Walt Disney 五福彩票6688下载 CEO Bob Iger that he had yesterday, in his Thursday speech. "The complexity of (Disneyland' and other theme parks') unique circumstances require additional conversation, a different kind of engagement in real-time," he said.
According to the city of Anaheim, the guidelines call for modifying or postponing non-essential gatherings of 250 or more people through at least March 31 to help stem the spread of coronavirus across the state.

While there have been no reported cases of the COVID-19 coronavirus at Disneyland Resort, a spokesperson stated that it "was in the best interest of our guests and employees" to close the Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park temporarily.
"We will monitor the ongoing situation and follow the advice and guidance of federal and state officials and health agencies," the spokesperson said.
As for cast members, their paychecks will keep coming while the park is closed, the park has said.
Disneyland Resort will work with guests who wish to change or cancel their visits, it said, and will provide refunds to those who have hotel bookings during this closure period.
"We anticipate heavy call volume over the next several days and appreciate guests' patience as we work hard to respond to all inquiries," the park spokesperson stated.
